KEY FINDINGS:

MOST TOLERANT NATIONS (multiple studies):
- Generally, the most tolerant countries in both studies were Scandinavian countries, Latin countries, and the United Kingdom and its former colonies (Australia, Canada, and New Zealand).
- In terms of the EU, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Portugal and Poland ranked the highest in racial equality according to surveys.

WVS DATA — MOST TOLERANT TIER (0–4.9%):
Countries where fewer than 5% of residents said they would not want a neighbour of a different race:
- Britain/UK: 2%
- Sweden: 1%
- Norway: 2%
- Brazil: 1%
- United States: 3.8%
- Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Colombia, Guatemala, Latvia

HISTORICAL DATA (early WVS waves):
"Britain is one of the most racially tolerant countries on the planet, a survey claims. The global social attitudes study claims that the most racially intolerant populations are all in the developing world, with Bangladesh, Jordan and India among the worst."

"By contrast, the study of 80 countries over approximately three decades found Western countries were most accepting of other cultures with Britain, the U.S., Canada and Australia more tolerant than anywhere else."

COMBINED TOLERANCE RANKINGS:
- English-speaking countries (UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) consistently appear in the most tolerant tier
- Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark) also in the most tolerant tier
- Much of Latin America scores well on racial tolerance

CONTEXTUAL NOTE:
The WVS does not cover every country on Earth. Gaps exist particularly in:
- Parts of sub-Saharan Africa
- Some Pacific island nations
- Some parts of Central Asia
However, the nations that are covered include the world's most populous countries (China, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, etc.) and the patterns are consistent across survey waves.
